FIA Theater reopens with the Dort Financial Credit Union Summer Film Series

FLINT — The Flint Institute of Arts will reopen its theater, with the Dort Financial Credit Union Summer Film Series.

The Dort Financial Credit Union Summer Film Series will include 12 weekends of screenings through August 29. The FIA continues to follow safe distancing, masking, and other safety precautions.

The next selection, slated June 11-13, is “Collective,” an investigative documentary from Romania about that country’s hospital system in the wake of tragedy. “Collective” was a 2020 Oscar nominee for best documentary and best international feature.

The remainder of the series includes classic American and foreign films, including musicals, comedies, dramas, and social-issue stories. Screenings begin at 7:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

The full summer film schedule:

June 11-13: “Collective” (Romania, 2020)

June 18-20: “Saturday Night Fever” (U.S., 1977), the disco musical that made John Travolta a star.

June 25-27: “Reservoir Dogs” (U.S., 2002), a crime drama that was Quentin Tarantino’s breakout film.

July 9-11: “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” (U.S., 2004), a seriocomic romance starring Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet.

July 16-18: “West Side Story” (U.S., 1961), the film version of the legendary Broadway musical.

July 23-25: “Romeo and Juliet” (U.K.- Italy, 1968), director Franco Zeffirelli’s Shakespearean tragedy.

July 30-Aug. 1: “The Lives of Others” (Germany, 2006), the Oscar-winning political thriller.

Aug. 6-8: “The Passenger” (Italy, 1975), Michelangelo Antonioni’s twisty drama starring Jack Nicholson.

Aug. 13-15: “Do the Right Thing” (U.S., 1989), Spike Lee’s tense drama about race relations.

Aug. 20-22: “The Night of the Hunter” (U.S., 1955), the Charles Laughtondirected psychological thriller starring Robert Mitchum and Shelley Winters.

Aug. 27-29: “The Gay Divorcee” (U.S., 1934), the first Fred Astaire-Ginger Rogers starring musical.

Tickets for the Dort Financial Credit Union Summer Film Series are $6 for the general public, $5 for FIA members, and $4 for Friends of Modern Art members.
