FLINT — Financial Plus Credit Union is partnering with the American Red Cross to host a community blood drive event.
The blood drive will take place July 26 from 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at the Financial Plus Main office, G-3381 Van Slyke Rd., Flint.
The American Red Cross provides about 40 percent of the nation’s blood supply. During the summer months blood donations are at an all-time low, as donors are more likely to take long trips and vacations.
Due to lack of recent donations, the American Red Cross declared an emergency blood shortage and are encouraging people to give blood, especially type O donors.
“Blood supplies are at an all-time low and we are encouraging our community members and employees to donate and be an everyday hero. By donating one pint of blood, you can save up to three lives.” said Olga Long, Vice President of Strategic Growth and Marketing. “The need for blood locally remains constant and our goal is to help keep our local blood banks full during the summer months.”
The actual blood donation will only take fifteen minutes. Walk-in donors are welcome, but if you prefer not to wait you can sign up in advance at www.redcrossblood.org.
