FLINT — Financial Plus Credit Union and the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce raised $4,131 for the Old Newsboys of Flint. The monetary donation and funds raised is in lieu of their annual Whatchamacallit networking holiday event. Due to COVID-19, the event was unable to be hosted this year. Whatchamacallit has been hosted over a decade and allows local business professionals to interact with hundreds of other businesses and community professionals while benefiting a great cause.
“Each year, we look forward to hosting Whatchamacallit with Financial Plus Credit Union, but this year is just a little different for all of us,” said Chamber President Nathan Shue. “Even though we were unable to host Whatchamacallit, we still wanted to make sure no child was forgotten this holiday season.”
Since 1924, the Old Newsboys has helped more than 818,000 children celebrate Christmas. Each $20 donation helps provide a local child in need with a sweat suit, socks and underclothes, a hat and pair of warm gloves, dental hygiene products, and a new, age-appropriate gift.
With the donation from Financial Plus and the Swartz Creek Area Chamber of Commerce, a total of 206 kids were helped this year.
“We are so proud to have raised these funds for the Old Newsboys of Flint,” said Kristen Brisbin, public relations and social media specialist for Financial Plus. “As an organization, it is very important to us to give back to the communities we serve, and what better way than to help children receive a wonderful Christmas. The true spirit of the holidays is giving to those who are in need.” — L.R.
