FLINT – The was a small electrical fire on the second floor of the Genesee County Jail around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff Chris Swanson streamed a one-minute briefing on the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department Facebook page at 7:14 p.m. to inform the community about the fire and to say there were no injuries.
Swanson said there 630 inmates at the jail when the fire broke out in a closet on the second floor of the jail, in the administrative wing. The source of the fire was believed to be inside an electrical conduit.
He said the sprinklers were activated and the Flint Fire Department responded quickly, extinguishing the blaze. – G.G.
