FLINT – The Flint Firebirds embarked on their fifth season in franchise history by finishing the preseason with a record of 3-1, most recently with a 6-5 loss to the Saginaw Spirit. The contest was held in front of a capacity crowd at Flint Iceland Arena.
Flint scored three goals in the third to draw even, but Saginaw put the final biscuit in the basket. Brennan Othmann notched at least one point in all four preseason games, while the goaltending duties were a collaboration between Evan Morrison and Peyton Grainer.
Prior to that, the Firebirds won 7-5 in Saginaw on Sept. 13 and topped the Windsor Spitfires 3-2 on the road on Sept. 11. The preseason opened on Aug. 31, with Flint recording a 7-5 victory at the Guelph Storm.
The regular season gets underway with a weekend road trip, beginning tomorrow, when Flint heads to Sault Ste. Marie. The Firebirds will then be at Saginaw on Saturday before returning to Flint to take on Niagara in their home opener on Sept. 28 at the Dort Federal Event Center.
