BURTON — In honor of Veterans Day, the Flint Firebirds hockey team is inviting local veterans and their families to be their guests on Friday, Nov. 9, when the Firebirds will face off against the Soo Greyhounds at Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center at 7 p.m.
The special evening will include a ceremonial puck drop, featuring Major General Michael Stone and World War II veteran Ed Sullivan, along with a color guard ceremony performed by JROTC members and other active duty military personnel.
Along with the puck drop and color guard ceremony, fans will be treated to a live ‘swearing in’ ceremony on the ice during the first intermission and an on-ice shoot-out during the second intermission between four of the local military service branch representatives. Military vehicles, including a Humvee from the National Guard, will be on display and a special Firebirds’ military t-shirt will be on sale at the merchandise store, The Bird’s Nest, located within Dort Federal Credit Union Event Center.
