BURTON — First Tee Eastern Michigan/IMA Brookwood Golf Clubs 17U PGA Junior League golfers advanced to the Regionals by beating out several local teams at Forest Akers Golf Course in Lansing on Aug. 19.
Team members include Katelyn Jacot, Jackson Levijoki, Jace Perroud, Lucas Power, Dylan Werner and Troy Werner.
Sponsored by National Car Rental, the PGA Junior League Championship Season highlighted the aspirational nature of competition, celebrated in a way unique to PGA Junior League. Ultimately, it’s a celebration of PGA Junior League as a whole, and all competitions are designed to have a fun, family-friendly and festival-like atmosphere.
The aspirational competitive pathway includes new opportunities for more kids to play more golf for those in the 17u division at the Section and Regional levels.
Each Regional competition is made up of four Section Champions from each of the 12 Regions across the country and the 12 17u All-Star teams will be named inaugural champions for this age division.
First Tee Eastern Michigan/IMA Brookwood’s 17U team will be compete at Regionals held on Purdue University’s Purdue- Kampen Course in West Lafayette Indiana Sept. 3-5.
The team is coached by PGA Professional Joe Simpson who is also the First Tee Eastern Michigan’s Program Director.
First Tee is a national youth sports organization whose mission is to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.
The Eastern Michigan chapter provides summer programming at six locations including IMA Brookwood Golf Club (Burton), Seifert Golf Center (Grand Blanc), Castle Creek Golf Club (Attica), Lake Nepessing Golfland (Lapeer), Currie Golf Course (Midland) and Maple Leaf Golf Course (Linwood).
The chapter also provides year- round training to more than 10,000 elementary school students in Genesee, Lapeer, Midland and Bay County through their national School Program. — G.G.
