GENESEE COUNTY — Flint Area School Employees Credit Union (FASECU) has announced that they will soon change their name to better reflect member commitment and demographics. As of July 2, FASECU will officially be known as Sovita Credit Union.
“We now have a much broader geographic area after opening our charter to four additional counties beyond Genesee,” said Marketing Specialist Jennifer Shew. “And we also opened our charter to include employees in the healthcare field as well as education. So, in order to include and reflect all of our members, we decided that our name was just too narrow and we began discussions regarding the logistics of a name change. It’s been about a two-year process, and we really think it’s a great fit.”
The name Sovita (pronounced So-VEEtah) was chosen to speak to the core value shared by those with vocations in education and healthcare. Derived from the Latin words for ‘social’ (so) and ‘life’ (vita), Sovita can be loosely translated to express “the life of the community.”
The new brand identity – including logo and website – will officially launch July 2, 2018. Existing members will engage the same staff at their usual branch locations. All telephone, fax and account details will remain the same. Now and after the name change, all educational and healthcare employees in the credit union’s service area and their families are eligible for membership, including those who have retired from careers in either of those fields.
