FLINT – The Flint City Bucks will begin their inaugural season at their new home at Flint’s historic Atwood Stadium in a pre-season friendly match against Detroit City FC. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.
The Bucks start their 24th season in the United Soccer League’s (USL) ‘League Two’ (formerly known as PDL) this May on the beautiful campus of Kettering University in Flint.
This will be Detroit City FC’s first trip north of Oakland County to play the Bucks. The two teams have faced each other in ‘US Open Cup’ matches in Hamtramck, Pontiac and Rochester. Fans will not want to miss this opportunity to watch the Bucks host DCFC as it is Detroit’s final season in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) this spring, before entering a new national league in the fall.
“We are very excited to host Detroit City at Atwood Stadium,” said Flint City Bucks President, Costa Papista. “We welcome DCFC and their passionate fan base to celebrate an early Cinco de Mayo party with us prior to the match. We expect it to be a great game and atmosphere featuring two of Michigan’s finest soccer organizations.”
After the pre-season contest versus DCFC, the Bucks will host the first quarterfinal match of the ‘Michigan Milk Cup’ on Saturday, May 11, which features 12 Michigan-based teams in single elimination brackets leading to a championship game in July. The Bucks’ official home opener of the ‘League Two’ season takes place on Saturday, May 18 against West Virginia (Charleston) Alliance FC. All Saturday night Flint City Bucks home matches kickoff at 7 p.m.
