Flint man charged in June 16 apartment shooting


FLINT TWP. — A Flint man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of another man in Flint Township on June 16.

Ziare Thomas, 25, was arraigned on July 9 on open murder and weapons charges in connection to the death of 21-year-old Jacari Roberts at a Flint Township apartment complex. Altogether, he is facing single felony counts of open murder, firearm possession by a felon, ammunition possession by a felon as well as two counts of felony firearm.

On June 16 at around 4 p.m., Flint Township Police were dispatched to Hunters Ridge Apartments on the 1800 block of Ridgecliff Drive. Police discovered that Roberts, a Flint resident, had been shot while outside one of the apartment buildings. Roberts was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds.

Investigators said that Thomas fled from the scene after the shooting and was on the run for several weeks before his arrest. He is currently being held at the Genesee County Jail without bond.
