Flint School of Performing Arts to host musicians from thirteen high school bands and orchestras



FLINT — Members of 13 local high school bands and orchestras will join the Flint Youth Wind Ensemble and Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra for the Mid-Michigan Band and Orchestra Day on Jan. 9, at the Flint Institute of Music, 1025 E. Kearsley St.

The event includes a full day of rehearsals, sectionals, master classes, and workshops. The day culminates in a huge concert at The Whiting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets may be purchased by calling The Whiting Ticket Center at 810-237-7333 or online.

Music will include Shadows, conducted by composer Dr. Scott Boerma from Western Michigan University and Berlioz’s Roman Carnival Overture conducted by Kevin Noe from Michigan State University. Davin Pierson Torre, director of the Flint School of Performing Arts and Flint Youth Symphony Orchestra conductor, is excited to be welcoming the students. “Performing great music, under the baton of exceptional guest conductors, on the stage of a beautiful concert hall – this will be an unforgettable experience for over 260 talented high school musicians from throughout mid-Michigan.” – G.G.
