GENESEE COUNTY — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Flint Post is accepting applications for its 2nd annual Citizens’ Academy, which will begin Monday, October 2 and end Monday, November 20. The eightweek academy will give citizens the opportunity to become familiar with the mission and operation of the MSP, understand the procedures troopers follow, increase their awareness of law enforcement’s role in the community, and get to know personnel at the MSP Flint Post.
Some of the things participants will learn about include traffic stops, mock crime scenes, and how to take fingerprints.
“We had such a successful year our first year and we are hoping this year will be even better,” said Trooper Amy Belanger, Community Service Trooper / Recruiter. “We encourage only local Genesee or Shiawassee County residents apply.”
Twenty-two people graduated from the Citizens Academy last year, Belanger said.
The eight-week academy will meet at the MSP Flint Post at 4481 Corunna Rd, every Monday at 6 P.M. A graduation ceremony will be held on November 20, 2017. Individuals who are interested in attending the Citizens’ Academy should contact Tpr. Belanger or Trooper Steve Kramer of the MSP Flint Post at (810) 732-1111 or via email at belangera@ michigan.gov to receive an application. The deadline for applications will be Friday, September 22nd and there are limited spots available.
