GENESEE COUNTY — The Michigan State Police (MSP) Flint Post is looking for additional volunteers to join CAUTION, which stands for Community Action United Team in Our Neighborhood. CAUTION utilizes a city’s clergy and neighborhood leaders to act as a quick response team to critical incidents to provide a calming influence and to serve as a liaison between law enforcement and residents.
In addition to responding to crime scenes, CAUTION members meet with representatives from the MSP to discuss upcoming community events and current issues, along with ongoing discussions about how to enhance trust between law enforcement and residents. Due to the success of this initiative, CAUTION is expanding in Genesee County.
CAUTION members are provided training in the following disciplines:
Critical Incident Defusing/Debriefing
Security in Places of Worship
Responding with Law Enforcement in a Crisis
Avoiding Caregiver Burnout
Clergy’s Role at a Critical Incident Scene
CAUTION began at the Flint Post in 2012. Since that time, it has expanded to Saginaw, Inkster, Muskegon Heights, Benton Harbor and Lansing.
