FLINT TWP. — Flint Township and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) have opted to cancel the township’s annual Trunk or Treat event due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The township’s Trunk or Treat event, which was held at the Genesee Valley Center last year along with a haunted trail, was scheduled to be hosted by Shea Automotive Group later this month before Halloween. However, growing concerns over COVID-19 prompted the township to cancel this year’s event.
“Just recently, our lawyer and the DDA requested we cancel all events until further notice due to COVID-19,” said Carol Pfaff Dahl, chairperson for Flint Township Volunteer Community Events. “We will keep the community updated as to when our next event will be. We want our community to be able to enjoy the township and hope to continue with these events very soon.”
In the meantime, Flint Township has set Halloween trick or treat hours for Saturday, Oct. 31, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The township plans to continue with its trick-or-treating hours unless an executive order from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer does not allow for trick-or-treating due to COVID-19. — B.G.
