Flint Township man killed in two-car crash

FLINT TWP. — A car crash in Flint Township claimed the life of a 24-year-old man last Monday afternoon.

On May 17, Flint Township Police and fire crews were dispatched to the intersection of West Bristol Road and Van Slyke Road at 1:35 p.m. in response to a two-car crash. An initial investigation revealed that a Volkswagen Beetle heading north on Van Slyke Road had turned west onto Bristol Road and collided with a GMC Terrain traveling south on Van Slyke Road.

Flint Township Police said that the GMC Terrain, driven by Christopher Smith of Flint Township, spun and rolled over, coming to a stop on its roof next to the curb. Smith, the lone occupant in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that a 44-year-old Flint Township woman was driving the Volkswagen that struck Smith’s car. The woman was uninjured from the crash and had no passengers with her.

The cause for the accident remains under investigation but police do not believe that alcohol or drugs played a factor in the crash. The intersection remained closed for several hours as the scene was investigated.
