Flint Township promotes Sgt. Rowley to assistant fire chief

FLINT TWP. — The Flint Township Board of Trustees has promoted Sgt. Mark Rowley Jr. to the position of assistant fire chief in the Flint Township Fire Department.

Rowley, who has been a full-time firefighter for Flint Township since 2017, is succeeding interim assistant fire chief Brett Beckley, who has filled in at the position for the past five months.

Prior to being a full-time firefighter, Rowley was an on-call firefighter with the Flushing Fire Department from 2012 to 2017 and an on-call firefighter with Flint Township from 2004 to 2012. He is currently attending Columbia Southern University to earn his bachelor’s degree in fire science.

In the meantime, Flint Township Police Chief Kevin Salter will continue as the township’s interim fire chief until the position can be filled. Former Flint Township Fire Chief Tom Stadler and former Assistant Fire Chief Michael Burkley both retired from the department in August. — B.G.
