FLUSHING — Flushing High School seniors from the Class of 2020 will get a chance to celebrate prom this summer, thanks to the actions of Dan Fralick with the Flushing Valley Golf Course.
Fralick, the public relations director for Flushing Valley Golf Course, has announced that the club will be hosting a prom night for FHS seniors on Aug. 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The event will be held at the club’s outdoor tent and is scheduled to include dancing, a DJ and a barbeque.
Around a month ago, Fralick began looking at available dates to host a belated prom night at the golf course. After Fralick publicized his idea, he received substantial interest from Flushing students and parents, who prompted him to continue with the plan to save the 2020 prom.
“The seniors have already lost out on the commencement walk, and I didn’t want to see them lose prom too,” Fralick said. “It would just be one more disappointment during this (pandemic) that we are going through right now.”
Fralick said that the event will be limited to a capacity of 350 to 400 people. He is also arranging for a private company to handle security during the night.
In light of COVID-19 concerns, Fralick said that the golf club will be undertaking thorough sanitary measures to keep the event safe for everyone.
Tickets for the prom will go on sale June 22 at Cops & Robbers Ice Cream and Gifts in Flushing. Admission is $38 per person. Seniors must bring their student ID and make checks payable to the Flushing Valley Golf & Country Club to receive their tickets.
Fralick said that he is inquiring with Flushing Community Schools to see if the district would be willing to release its 2019 prom funds to cover the event at Flushing Valley. If that is not an option, he said that sponsors are welcome to pitch in and help fund the prom.
