Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio creates unique combination for clientele

— When customers first walk into Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio, two things grab their attention: a large picture of Marilyn Monroe and three, giant chalkboards naming all of the services provided by the studio.

Opened June 1 by Nicole Smith, Foxy’s Spa & Fitness is truly a unique experience for customers. Smith, a graduate of Carman-Ainsworth High School, has a long history in the business, starting with yoga and massage therapy 15 years ago, followed by doing Reiki, a natural healing system, at McLaren’s wellness division approximately 10 years ago. From there, Smith obtained her esthetician’s license and worked at Macy’s for four years. She also has an instructor’s license and taught at Mott Community College for a little over two years.

“I decided to open my own place,” Smith said of her first studio. “We are merging fitness with spa services to create a unique combination.”

As part of the name suggests, the studio offers a variety of spa treatments designed to pamper both women and men. “The facility is co-ed except for the dance classes,” Smith said. The studio offers a fullline of beauty services, including facials, a light therapy treatment, waxing, body treatments and massage therapy. Smith said the most popular services are skin care, especially the waxing services and facials. The studio has two treatment rooms, and a changing room.

The studio also features a line of products made exclusively for Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio.

“It’s a professional line that gives more dramatic results,” Smith said. “It’s natural, aloe vera-based and is manufactured from a lab that makes products for plastic surgeons and dermatologists.” Cost for the products range from $12-37, and the products only are available at the studio.

Besides its pampering products and services, Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio offers a variety of classes, including pole dancing and Zumba. Led by Smith, the pole dancing classes, which are taught in a six-week series, kicks off with learning 40 moves and routines in the first four weeks to practicing in week five and then simply having fun for the final week.

“Pole dancing is huge, a new fitness phenomenon,” Smith said. “It’s quite popular because it’s challenging, fun and different. Anybody can do it. It’s for all women.”

Class sizes are small, with a maximum of eight girls per class. There are three levels for pole dancing: Pole Princess (beginners), Pole Queen (intermediate) and Pole Goddess (advanced). In addition to three levels, members also can take the pole choreography class or participate in open pole where they can practice their moves anytime the studio is open and a class is not going on. Costs for open pole is $5 for 30 minutes.

Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio also offers Zumba dance classes, taught by Sarah Gilbert of Swartz Creek. “Zumba is a great way to burn calories,” Smith said. The studio also recently hired an instructor for the yoga classes, which include Sivananda Yoga, Ananda Yoga and Hatha Flow- Kripalu Style. Foxy’s also offers classes and treatment in Reiki.

“We are adding more classes to the fall schedule, such as Pilates and exotic dance classes,” she said. The classes are open to all ages, except for the pole dance and exotic dance classes which are 18 and over. Minors need to be accompanied by an adult to the studio for services and classes.

Individuals interested in joining Foxy’s Spa & Fitness Studio as a member can pay $99 a month for its unlimited monthly class membership. As a special, Foxy’s offers one free week for individuals to come in, and try all of the classes on their schedule for free. The studio has a referral program where a referring client will receive $5 in their account if a person they refer comes into the studio for a treatment or class.

Women interested in a fun night out can come to Foxy’s for a private party package, tailored by bachelorette or girls night out parties. There are two different packages, and are based on a per person cost. The one-hour package is $15 per person and the two-hour package is $25 per person. “The parties are for women only and held on Friday and Saturday nights,” Smith said. “We can personalize classes for this.”
