FLINT TWP. — The long-awaited posting for three new full-time firefighter jobs is now up and applications are being accepted until September 1.
With funding for new hires created by the Public Safety Millage approved by voters last November; the Flint Civil Service Commission is accepting applications for three entry-level positions and additional openings expected within the next two years due to retirements.
The department currently has nine full-time sworn officers and 20 on-call fighters, according to the job posting. It operates three stations, 6 engines and 1 support vehicle – serving a community of 33,691 residents and a large commercial/ retail district. The department also conducts fire inspections and responds to more than 800 alarms each year.
All applicants must meet several criteria including U.S. citizenship, age 18 or older, have a valid Michigan Driver’s license, cell phone and email account, knowledge of computers and Windows based computer software (i.e. Word, PowerPoint) and other educational requirements and Michigan Fire Fighter Training Council certifications. Residency in Flint Township or Genesee County is preferred.

Dye Road, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, or at the Flint Township Fire Station #1 at 5331 Reuben Street, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Applications must be returned to the office of the Flint Township Clerk no later than 5:30pm on Tuesday, September 1, 2015. All qualified applicants will be notified by First Class mail of the date, time and place for the written portion of the examination.
