Fun at the Fair





 

 

MT. MORRIS
— Kids of all ages and their families will be trekking to the Genesee County Fair Grounds Aug. 16-22 for the 2010 Genesee County Fair.

Every day of the fair features the Great Lakes Timber Show at 12:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.; the Great American Duck Races at 11:30 a.m., 1:45 p.m., 4 .m. and 7 p.m.; the Classic K-9 Show at 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 6:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.; free wagon rides from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Pure Pro Wrestling at 5:30 p.m., 7:45 p.m. and 9:15 p.m.; XTreme Chainsaw Artist Jeff Sequin at 10 a.m., 12:15 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.; the petting zoo, Farm Bureau Agricultural Community Exhibit, MSU Master Gardener Demonstrations and Agricultural, Horticultural, Arts and Science exhibits opening daily at 10 a.m.; a bingo tent opening at 11 a.m.; the beer tent opening daily at noon; the Flint Institute of Arts — Fun Center, opening daily at noon; free target shooting by the Linden Sportsmen Club at noon; and the Las Vegas Tent opening at 3 p.m. Monday-Friday and noon Saturday and Sunday.

Each day of the fair features specials for the Midway rides. This year’s Midway will feature 1001 Nights, Alpine, Bear Affair, Cliffhanger, Drummer Boy, Fire Chief, Flivver, Freak Out, Merry Go Round, Mini Indy, Movie Magic, Orbitor, Orient Express, Ring of Fire, Scrambler, Starship, State Fair Slide, Tilt-A-Whirl, Tinsel Town, Toon Town, Tornado, Venetian Swing and Yo Yo.

In addition to the every day events, each day of the Genesee County Fair has something special for every member of the family. Each day has a different theme with specialty events

Schedule of events

Monday, Aug. 16 — Kids Day

9 a.m.:
Corn dog kickoff with a free corn dog to the first 1,000 guests; registration for the baby contest and tot trot in the entertainment tent; youth pet judging in the Still Exhibits Building; and poultry show in the poultry tent.

10 a.m.:
Child Identification Program, provided by Michigan Masons, in the entertainment tent, and the baby contest and tot trot begins in the entertainment tent.

11 a.m.:
Youth Exhibitor demonstrations, public speaking and performing arts in the entertainment tent

Noon:
The Dairy Cattle Show begins in the lIvestock arena

1 p.m.:
Youth goat show in the goat tent and youth poultry show in the poultry tent.

2 p.m.:
Midway opens, all rides are $1; hog calling contest begins in the Creative Wood Products Community Gazebo.

2:30 and 4:30 p.m.:
Ronald McDonald Magic Show in the Creative Wood Products Community Gazebo

5 p.m.:
Community Parade

6 p.m.:
Youth Swine Show in the livestock arena

6:30 p.m.:
Opening Ceremonies with the Coronation of the 2010 Genesee County Fair Queen in the Grandstand Arena

7 p.m.:
Grandstand Show: Michigan Monster Truck Shootout

9:30 p.m.: ZIV with special guest 1,000 Watts of Love, live in the beer tent

Tuesday, Aug. 17 — Senior Citizens Day

9 a.m.:
VG’s offers free coffee and doughnuts for senior citizens in the entertainment tent and the youth dairy cattle show begins in the livestock arena

10 a.m.:
Youth rabbit and guinea pig show begins in the rabbit tent

Noon:
Midway opens, featuring unlimited rides until 10 p.m. for $20; gun safety exhibit opens; and the Youth Talent Contest begins in the entertainment tent

1 p.m.:
Roaring 20s Ice Cream Social for grandparents in the Community Wood Products Community Gazebo

2 p.m.:
Tomato Baseball in the Grandstand Arena

4 p.m.:
Youth beef cattle show in the lIvestock arena

5 p.m.: Doughnut eating contest in the Community Wood Products Community Gazebo

7 p.m.:
Mid-States Bolt & Screw Figure 8 Derby

9:30 p.m.:
Last Warning with special guest Chrome Mollie, live in the entertainment tent

Youth swine costume show in the livestock arena

7 p.m.:
ELGA Credit Union Enduro Derby and Sabba Zimora Belly Dance Troupe performance in the beer tent

8 p.m.:
Sabba Zimora Belly Dance Troupe performance in the beer tent

9:30 p.m.:
Voodoo Honey, live in the beer tent

Thursday, Aug. 19 — Union
