— Flint Youth Theatre announces open auditions and technical interviews for Beyond a
written by Moses Goldberg. Auditions are open to all students in grades seven and above and will be held 6:30-9:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at FYT, 1220 E. Kearsley St. in the Flint Cultural Center. Check-in will begin after 6 p.m. using FYT’s Main Entrance.
Beyond a Child
will be directed by FYT Executive Artistic Director William P. Ward, choreographed by FYT Associate Artist Margaret A. Mead-Finizio, stage managed by FYT Associate Artistic Director Walter Hill, with production design by Ward and FYT Artistic Director Designate Jeremy Winchester.
The production company will include a mix of FYT resident artists, apprentices and students.
The play deals with the comingof age rituals of a boy in a primitive culture.
Torn between the freedom of childhood and the pressures to assume adult responsibilities, his changing relationships are explored through dance and dialogue — with his uncle (the Chief), the tribal medicine man, his best friend, and — most particularly — his grandmother.
Those auditioning are asked to wear a loose shirt, sweat pants, tennis shoes and have hair pulled back. No skirts, jeans or head coverings.
It is not necessary to prepare anything to audition or interview for a technical position. FYT is committed to ethnically mixed companies. Rehearsals for Beyond
will begin Aug. 30 with performances running Oct. 8-25.
