FLINT – Flint Youth Theatre will take audiences on a journey of imagination and wonder this holiday season with their presentation of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka.”
“We’re so excited to bring this new adaptation of ‘Willy Wonka’ to life on stage,” stated Samuel Richardson, Education & Administrative director at Flint Youth Theatre. “It’s the tale that you know and love with a few surprises thrown in along the way. It’s the perfect way for families to spend time together during the holiday season and make new memories.”
The show will feature FYT veteran Dan Gerics in the role of Willy Wonka. The stage adaptation takes inspiration from Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” and follows the adventures of Charlie Bucket, Grandpa Joe, Veruca Salt, Augustus Gloop, Oompa-Loompas, and of course, the charismatic Wonka. The production is sponsored by The Whiting Foundation, and the Building Bridges Community Partner is Whaley Children’s Center.
In addition to ten shows for the general public, Flint Youth Theatre will have eight daytime performances of the production through its Learning Through Theatre program. Learning Through Theatre provides an opportunity for young students throughout mid-Michigan to experience live theatre and participate in a special workshop that ties the show into core curriculum topics. The general public is also welcome to purchase tickets for these shows.
Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka is recommended for grades 1 and up. Tickets range in price from $12 to $18 and are available to purchase online at www. thewhiting.com/tickets or at the door. Please call Flint Youth Theatre at 810- 237-1530 for more information.
