Gawthrop earns national recognition from the CCBOA



FLINT — Larry Gawthrop, Chief Financial Officer at Mott Community College, has been named the Outstanding Chief Business Officer (OCBO) for 2015 by the Community College Business Officers (CCBO) Region V. This award recognizes business officers who have made outstanding contributions to business and financial management in higher education.

“It is truly an honor to be recognized by my peers,” said Gawthrop of the award. “This recognition is not just about personal accomplishments, but acknowledges the commitment to excellence that everyone at Mott College exhibits in ensuring student success.

“Mr. Gawthrop is most deserving of this award,” said Dr. Beverly Walker- Griffea, President of Mott College. “His financial acumen and professionalism through years of economic downturn in the City of Flint, have enabled Mott College to remain financially solvent and continue to be a stabilizing force in the community in addition to creating new opportunities for our students.”

Gawthrop will receive the award at the 33rd Annual International CCBO Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada Sept. 19 – 22. The CCBO is a national organization representing more than 200 colleges with more than 900 members.

Criteria for the award include examples of outstanding accomplishments, participation in college-wide strategic planning and implementation of policies supporting the college’s mission, professional activities in state, regional and national associations and community leadership, service and involvement. – G.G.
