FLINT — Calling all Harry Potter wannabees: there are still a few spots open in the YMCA Camp Copneconic Harry Potter-themed day camp.
The Genesee District Library (GDL) and YMCA Camp Copneconic have partnered once again to offer this specialtythemed day camp. Adventures in Imagination will immerse third through sixth graders in in the Harry Potter book series.
“This is the fourth season Camp Copneconic is offering a specialty-themed camp,” said Patty Rudd, Day Camp and School Programs Director. “Adventures in Imagination is an exciting collaboration between the GDL and Camp Copneconic. It’s sure to be a magical experience for the youth in our community.”
Campers will experience the make-believe world of Harry Potter and the Hogwarts School. Kids will be “sorted” into houses and will enjoy activities such as Charms 101, Potions 101, book activities, crafts, and of course, many rousing games of Quidditch.
The five-day day camp will culminate with a scavenger hunt through the Forbidden Forest and a competition for the retrieval of the Sorcerer’s Stone.
“This is so much fun,” said Katie Badgley, GDL children’s librarian. “With the help of Camp Copneconic we can make it possible for kids to actually step into Harry’s shoes, both with their imaginations and physically. Kids will face the Sorting Hat, create magic wands, floo powder potions and creatures, and use their wizarding skills to read invisible ink, solve clues and open the Breakout Box to find the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
The cost is $250 for five days, July 8-12 and August 12-16. To register visit campcopneconic.org, or call 810-629-9622. — G.G.
