FLINT TWP. — Flint Metal Center will play host to a threeday vehicle show featuring General Motors’ 2012 cars, trucks and crossovers and a ride event that will allow people to test drive GM products in a relaxed and fun environment.
The event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 13-15 at Flint Metal Center, 2238 Bristol Road in Flint. The plant is located southeast of the I- 75/I-69 interchange. In 2008, the last time Flint Metal hosted the three-day show, more than 8,000 people attended the event. That event also raised $14,000 for local charities.
All four GM brands — Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick — will be represented at this year’s show. Vehicles are being provided by Al Serra Auto Plaza, Patsy Lou Automotive Group, Applegate Chevrolet and General Motors. The Mobile Technology Association of Michigan, a Michigan-based nonprofit trade group for the mobile industry, is helping market the event.
More than 80 GM vehicles will be on display, including the Chevrolet Volt, Camaro, Corvette and Flint-built Silverado HD, the Cadillac CTS lineup, GMC Acadia, Terrain and Sierra pickup and Buick Regal, LaCrosse and Enclave.
The three-day show, which is coordinated by Flint Metal Center, UAW Local 659 and the GM Professional Managers Network, will feature more than 40 vendors, offering consumers the opportunity to check out various automotive and non-automotive products.
While the event is geared toward automotive shoppers, there will be plenty of activities for others in attendance. The UAW-GM Made in America exhibit features a remote-controlled race track. GM and its partner Safe Kids Worldwide will be on hand to help parents select the correct car seat and learn about child safety in and around vehicles.
Entertainment will be provided each day by various local radio stations and disc jockeys. A food court, featuring Flint-area businesses, will offer attendees a chance to get some nourishment in between test drives.
Attendees will also have a chance to win gas cards and other prizes. — G.G.
