General Motors and Consumers Energy offer support to Genesee County Habitat for Humanity

GENESEE COUNTY – General Motors and Consumers Energy employees will take part Friday offering construction assistance at a Habitat for Humanity build site in Genesee County. The build will take place at 9053 North Center Road in Clio Michigan.

This project will provide a 1200 square-foot home on spacious property to a deserving homeowner. The generosity of our community partners has enabled Genesee County Habitat for Humanity to build or repair over 107 homes in the county. Our partners do more than help build homes; they are providing hope and a brighter future for families in need in the community.

“Consumers Energy has been proud to support Habitat for Humanity in Michigan through the sweat equity of our employees and $800,000 in contributions from Consumers Energy and the Consumers Energy Foundation since 2001,” said Carolyn Bloodworth, secretary/treasurer of the Consumers Energy Foundation. “We are excited to work with General Motors this week, too, to make a positive difference in Genesee County.”

Consumers Energy was recognized this year as Habitat for Humanity of Michigan’s Sponsor of the Year. Since 2013, Consumers Energy also has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity in the Great Lakes Bay area to assist in providing energy efficiency upgrades for more than 200 residents. More than 1,000 energy efficiency measures have been installed to increase energy efficiency, including attic insulation, CFL and LED bulbs, and more. These upgrades keep families safe and also lessen the financial cost of home ownership.

Recently, the General Motors Foundation announced a $1 million grant to Habitat for Humanity International that will fund 9 U.S. home builds and two international projects. A Flint Work/Live project has also been dedicated as part of that partnership. – G.G.
