Genesee County Circuit Court delay in resumption of jury trials

GENESEE COUNTY — Chief Judge Duncan M. Beagle announced the resumption of jury trials has again been delayed until April 28, based on the COVID19 recent new case count in Genesee County.

Jury trials were scheduled to begin on March 10, after being delayed since the fall of 2020, due to the pandemic.

The Court has been engaged in extensive planning for the resumption of jury trials, designed to provide a safe environment for jurors,-litigants and all court participants.

While confident in the plan, the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) proscribes the baseline of new COVID19 cases and positive test rates that must be met before jury trials are permitted to resume.

Judge Beagle said, “With the increased availability of vaccines and optimistic projections about a decline in the spread of new cases, the Court selected a new target date to move forward.”

The Circuit Court continues to rely extensively on remote court proceedings, while also permitting limited in person court events.
