GENESEE COUNTY — It’s time to ditch your stuffy office job or that fast-food joint and spend some time outdoors this summer. The Genesee County Parks team is looking for great new people to join them for the upcoming summer season. The organization will be conducting on-thespot interviews at their two upcoming job fairs for all open seasonal positions. The first of the two job fairs will be held from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. this Saturday, Feb. 23 at Crossroads Village in Flint.
“This is our first job fair in a long time, and we wanted to host it at Crossroads Village because that’s one of our biggest departments and we thought it’d be great for people to see the park they may want to work in,” said Genesee County Parks Marketing Assistant Hollie Marlett. “We’ll be looking for well over 200 employees for our summer season and there’s quite a few positions available, from maintenance to interpreters and shop workers to railroad employees at Crossroads Village.”
With more than 11,000 acres of parks and trails throughout Genesee County, Marlett says that there are plenty of jobs available in the maintenance department. Because of the need for employees, many on-the-spot interviews will be held at this weekend’s job fair, but Marlett stresses that applications are accepted throughout the course of the year via email or at any of the Genesee County Parks offices.
“We have positions open all over the county, not just at Crossroads Village,” said Marlett. “Our maintenance department is huge, and with all the grass and fences that need to be tended to, it’s a lot of work, so we need a lot of employees. And it’s not just available to people that live in Genesee County. If you’re in Birch Run or Frankenmuth, we have several parks that are nearby you. Also, people can feel free to apply to multiple positions and see which one best fits them before committing to anything.”
For those that are unable to make it to this Saturday’s job fair at Crossroads Village, the next job fair will be held on Thursday, March 14 at Berston Field House from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Can’t make it to either job fair? You can still apply. The organization is already accepting applications. Visit their website for job descriptions and an application.
