Genesee County Recycling Day is June 8


GENESEE COUNTY — A series of Genesee County Recycle Days will be hosted to collect residents’ unwanted household hazardous waste, electronics and paint, among other items, for recycling.

A free Recycle Day will take place June 8, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Fenton High School, located at 3200 W. Shiawassee Ave, Fenton, and at the Flint Water Service Center at 3310 East Court Street, Flint. It is advised that attendants enter from Owen Road to Donaldson Drive when dropping items at Fenton High School.

Another Recycle Day will be held Oct. 12, also from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Flint Water Service Center and Clio High School, located at 1 Mustang Drive, Clio. It is advised that those attending enter the Clio High School lot through the Tuscola Road entrance.

Recycle Days will also be available on Tuesdays from 2-6 p.m. on July 9, Aug. 13, and Sept. 10, in Parking Lot S of Mott Community College, located at 156 Albert R. Horrigan Drive, Flint.

New this year is the program’s appliance collection program. Appliances will only be collected from May 1, 2019 to June 8, 2019 and Sept. 1-Oct. 12 and may be dropped off from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or from 8-11:30 a.m. on Saturdays at Green for Life Environmental (GFL) on 2051 W Bristol Rd, Flint.

Accepted items include aerosols, automotive fluids, household and automotive batteries, biomedical sharps in a rigid/sealed container, corrosives (acids/bases), all kinds of electronics, fire extinguishers, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, mercury, oil based paint and solvents, pesticides and herbicides, prescription medication, propane cylinders weighing up to 30 lbs. each, reactives and oxidizers, and smoke detectors. Tires (up to 10) will be accepted off the rim on June 8 and Oct. 12 only. No tractor tires will be accepted.

Fifty-five gallon drums of waste, agricultural tires and waste, ammunition, appliances, compressed gas cylinders other than propane, commercial tires and waste, construction materials, explosives, fireworks, garbage and yard waste, industrial tires and waste, paper for shredding, radioactive materials, tires on the rim, and weapons will not be accepted.
