Genesee Humane Society to hold spring planting




BURTON — Bring a Flat to Plant on June 2 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Humane Society. This will be the seventh year for this event.

“It started with just a few gardens and we have expanded, “ said Event Coordinator Terry Ashley. “We have six gardens and they all have to be beautified.”

According to Ashley, last year about 70 people showed up to help.

Yellow marigolds, red petunias, red salvia, purple petunies or purple ageratum are the preferred flowers.

Wojo Garden Splendors in Davison is “giving back to the Humane Society of Genesee County.” If a volunteer purchases planting supplies on May 31 or June 1, they will give back 10 percent.

A picnic is scheduled for the day. The Humane Society providing hot dogs with volunteers each bringing a dish to pass.

“We want everyone to show up and help us plant,” said Ashley.
