FLINT TWP. — An annual carnival by Elliott’s Amusements of Mason is coming back for the third year to the southwest parking lot in front of Genesee Valley Center shopping mall.
The township board has approved a Special Event permit for Elliott’s to run the carnival April 17-27.
Trustee Frank Kasle asked if the township would get a share of the proceeds.
Clerk Kim Courts said no, that was back when the township partnered with them for its annual community days fundraiser which was last held in 2012 in cooperation with a different carnival sponsor.
Elliott’s is now partnering with Spinoso Real Estate Group which owns the mall.
It is the third year for the carnival being allowed to set up in front of Macy’s and visible from Miller and Linden Roads. In past years, it was staged in a northeast corner parking lot, most easily accessible from Dutcher Road at the back mall entrance. I
Also in past few years, the carnival was held in May or as late as August, which are warmer months.
“What if it snows?’ Kasle asked about this year’s earlier timeframe.
Court said then it might be a tad chilly.
She said that Elliott had paid all fees and provided all documents necessary to hold the event which includes insurance and a hold harmless agreement to protect the township from any liability. Final approval is contingent on a set-up inspection by the fire department.
Elliott’s Amusements’ midway includes games and thrill rides such as the Super Himalaya and Cortina Bob plus several kiddie rides. There also is a food concession.
Carnival hours will be from 4-11 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, noon- 11 p.m. on Saturday and noon-8 p.m. on Sunday, according to documents filed with the township.
Ticket information will be provided later.
