Genesys offers free car seat safety checks

GRAND BLANC – Genesys Health System is teaming up with the Grand Blanc Fire Department to offer monthly car seat inspection stations.

Starting Wednesday, Oct. 11, parents may stop by the Grand Blanc Fire Department, 117 High Street, for a car seat safety check. Inspections will be performed from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Appointments are required. Call 810-606-5730 for an appointment or details on other upcoming car seat safety checks.

Certified child passenger safety technicians will check seats for proper use and installation, as well as teach parents how to properly install child safety seats. A limited number of new car seats will be available if needed.

Studies have shown that most car safety seats are not properly installed in vehicles.

“We offer these checks to educate parents about proper installation with the goal of reducing injuries in children,” said Dawn Brooks, Genesys registered nurse and certified child passenger safety seat technician. “We want to ensure all children are riding safely.” – L.R.
