SWARTZ CREEK — The GFWC Swartz Creek Women’s Club has awarded a $500 scholarship to Sydney Goupil.
After graduating from Swartz Creek High School in 2018, Goupil attended Mott Community College. She currently is a senior at Eastern Michigan University where she is pursuing a degree in speech therapy, and plans to continue her studies to achieve a master’s degree.
Elaine Tucker, GFWC secretary, said the scholarship committee selected Goupil because she is “well-rounded” and has contributed a lot to the community through her volunteer work.
In addition, “she really has put a lot of effort into her studies,” Tucker said.
While a student at SCHS, Goupil volunteered with Peers Who Care and Key Club, served as class president, and was a member of the National Honors Society. She also volunteered at the Genesee County animal shelter.
Goupil, 21, of Mundy Township, said she has always had a passion for giving back and loves working with kids, so her career choice “hits all the marks.”
“I am very honored to receive this award,” she said. “I hope to make the GFWC proud.”
