GENESEE COUNTY — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) will once again implement a fourday work week during the summer. This initiative is part of a continuing effort to substantially reduce energy costs for the district. The regular five-day work week will be compressed into a four- day work week to achieve these savings.
Effective this week, all GISD facilities will be closed on Fridays. The district’s summer business hours will be:
Monday through Thursday, from 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
The four-day summer schedule will end Aug. 21. The district will resume its regular schedule, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, beginning Aug. 24.
GISD is committed to serving the needs of its constituents and the fourday work week will not result in any reduction of services. Even though district facilities will be closed for business on Fridays, any need for critical services, requiring specific staff to work modified schedules, will be provided.
This initiative is part of an ongoing effort by public and private organizations to restructure work schedules to achieve efficiencies and cost savings. For the last seven years, GISD has implemented this strategy, and during those summer periods the district recognized measurable savings in energy and utility costs. — G.G.
