FLINT — The Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) is proud to announce it has received a very special award from the Michigan Association of School Boards (MASB).
The GISD was awarded the SET SEG Foundation Education Excellence Award for its recently updated GenNET Virtual program.
To be selected for the MASB/SET SEG Foundation Education Excellence Award is an incredible achievement. The award was presented to just 10 programs out of the many public schools across the state of Michigan. As a 2021 Education Excellence Award winner, the GISD will receive $2,500, a commemorative trophy, and an “Education Excellence Winner” roadside sign.
The GISD salutes its Technology and Media Services (TMS) team for taking the lead and going above and beyond to provide virtual learning opportunities to children across Michigan as school leaders worked to determine ways to continue educating students in the midst of the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. This award signifies the incredible work and commitment to exceptional quality and service of those involved in developing the GenNet Virtual program.
“It is truly an honor to have been selected for this award,” said Luke Wittum, Assistant Superintendent of Technology and Media Services for GISD. “Our team worked really hard to produce a program to meet the online learning needs of students and teachers during this critical time. We plan to use the award money to help fund the creation of additional content for virtual instruction.”
GenNet Virtual provides schools with access to a robust Learning Management System and instructional content for grades K-12. The TMS team worked to create a platform that is both user-friendly and cost-effective. This solution is being used to deliver virtual learning options to schools in our county and will also provide a platform for future initiatives that require online learning tools. With school districts across Michigan facing similar needs for cost-effective virtual learning options, many other districts have chosen to partner with GISD to utilize the GenNet Virtual platform. Due to this innovative in-demand new program, GenNet Virtual is now supporting more than 80 school districts across Michigan. — G.G.
