FLINT TWP. — Interested in a used but not used-up Dodge Charger or Ford Crown Victoria?
Then keep your eyes peeled to ebay as a possible disposal site in coming weeks for seven former Flint Township police cruisers.
The township board approved the sale of the cars at its Monday night meeting. Lt. Robert Battinkoff said the vehicles are no longer fit for police work and had been offered to other township departments for their use.
But judging by the extent of repairs needed on the vehicles, it was determined that its best to sell them.
“In the past, we’ve sold them on ebay and that is what we propose to do,” Battinkoff said.
Going up on the block are a 1992 black GMC van with 91,865 miles; a black 2006 Crown Vic with 98,467 miles; a 2006 black/white Dodge Charger with 98,709 miles; two 2008 black/white Crown Vics with 89,681 and 82,703 miles respectively; a 2007 black/white Crown Vic with 84,687 miles and a 2006 black Dodge Charger with 108,770 miles.
Repairs needed vary for each vehicle but known problems may include engine knock, bad brakes, an electrical short in the dashboard, needed front end work, broken passenger mirrors, a bad fan motor, no trunk lock, no driver’s side air bag, no air conditioning, engine light on, leaking antifreeze and rusting.
“These vehicles not only have high mileage but as police service vehicles have spent many hours with the engine idling,’’ said Police Chief George Sippert, in a memo attached to the request to sell the vehicles.
