DAVISON – Carman-Ainsworth faces a mountainous task in what will likely be its final golf competition of the season today.
The Cavaliers will play in the Div. 1 regional tournament at Davison Country Club in what is, without question, the toughest regional in the state. The field includes the top two ranked teams in Div. 1 in No. 1 Rochester and No. 2 Lake Orion, plus No. 9 Davison, which is playing on its home course.
Only the top three teams and top three individuals not on those teams will advance to the state finals Oct. 16-17 at Grand Valley State University, so unranked Carman-Ainsworth needs a monumental upset to keep its season going.
As if the challenge weren’t great enough, the Cavs will likely go into the tourney without Taylor Jarnigin, one of their top scorers most of the season, who has an AP class test scheduled today.
The Cavs will have Mikaila Garrison, who has usually been their low scorer this fall. Joining her will be Madysen League, Sloan Barclay and Ally Dittenber in a tentative lineup at this writing.
The rest of the 13-team regional field has Clarkston, Grand Blanc, Lapeer, Oxford, Port Huron Northern, Rochester Adams, Rochester Hills Stoney Creek, Romeo and Saginaw Heritage.
