MUNDY TWP. — Grand Blanc High School seniors were treated to a unique graduation commencement ceremony in a most unlikely venue: Genesee County’s only active drive-in movie theater.

On June 4, Grand Blanc Community Schools hosted a drive-thru commencement for the Class of 2020 at the iconic US 23 Drive in Theatre in Mundy Township. Graduates arrived one-by-one in vehicles with their families and were greeted with applause from Grand Blanc teachers and staff. Many graduating seniors wore their caps and gowns and decorated their cars in a festive show of school spirit.

As dusk fell, graduates and their families relaxed around their cars and watched a commencement video on the drive-in’s three huge movie screens. The 90-minute commencement video included pre-taped speeches from Grand Blanc High School Principal Michael Fray and Superintendent Clarence Garner, along with presentations by several GBHS 2020 graduates and a musical number performed by the Grand Blanc High School Chorale.
