Grandmother, two children escape burning house

FLINT TWP. — A grandmother and two children escaped a house fire in Flint Township last week.

Flint Township Fire Chief Thomas Stadler said firefighters were called to 1212 Mill Creek Court at about 7:14 a.m. May 23 for a closet fire. He said the fire was limited to the closet with some heat and smoke damage to one of the bedrooms. The home belonged to the mother of the two children, who was at work at the time the fire started. The grandmother was in the home caring for the children, and they all were able to get out of the home uninjured.

Stadler said he would be following up with the mother, whose name was not available, as to whether she owned or rented the home and if the home was insured. He said the family will be staying at the grandmother’s house until the utilities can ben checked and deemed safe for them to move back in.

Consumers Energy assisted Flint Township Fire Department in turning off the gas and electric to the home. The fire remains under investigation.
