FLINT TWP. — A $750 grant from Keep Genesee County Beautiful to the Flint Township Parks and Recreation Commission will be used to beautify the west side of the northbound exit ramp at I-75 and Corunna Road.
Jim McClung, commission chairman, said the grant awarded on April 18 will help fund a flower garden similar to one done last year on the other side of the freeway exit that was partly paid for with a similar beatification grant.
“We will be going out to different businesses and getting more donations to go along with it,’’ he said of the grant, naming Lowe’s and Home Depot among the list of potential donors. Last year, the group received a $500 grant but ended up with more than $1,000 in materials to work with, he said.
Two weekends of work, probably starting some time in June, will include spreading dirt, planting perennials and mulching.
McClung said the commission gets help doing the work from Rotary Club volunteers.
Founded in 2004, Keep Genesee County Beautiful is funded by the Ruth Mott Foundation in partnership with the United Way of Genesee County and University Outreach at the University of Michigan-Flint. It is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful in the State of Michigan.
