MUNDY TWP. — Local dignitaries, community members and company representatives from Lodgco Hospitality celebrated the ground-breaking of Genesee County’s newest hotel, May 17.
The ceremony, which was held on Hill Road, along US-23 in Mundy Township, marked the location where a future Hyatt Place hotel will stand.
“We believe that the Hyatt Place is the right product for this market,” said Ann Kelly, President of Lodgco Hospitality. “We know people are traveling to Genesee County for a variety of reasons and now they will have a Hyatt branded hotel to choose.”
Mundy Township Supervisor David Guigear was also on hand to express his support for the project. He and Kelly performed the ground-breaking honors alongside Mike Postle, Lodgco Hospitality Vice President of Construction and Project Management; Steve Saylers, CM Division Vice President at the Wolgast Corporation; and Missie Freier from 1st State Bank.
Once completed, the 106-guest room hotel will boast amenities such as an indoor pool, business center, cocktail lounge and fitness room. Travelers and guests can also partake in breakfast in the gallery kitchen and receive 24-hour access to hot meals.
Additionally, the Hyatt Place will have 1,400 square feet of meeting space and an outdoor patio with a firepit. Project organizers expect the establishment to employ 20 to 30 people.
The hotel site itself is located on 5481 Hill 23 Drive between the Meijer on Torrey Road and southbound US-23.
Currently in its early stages, the $16 million project is expected to be finished by mid-2019.
Lodgco Hospitality, a Mt. Pleasantbased company, also operates the Hampton Inn on 6060 Rashelle Drive in Flint.
Altogether, it owns and manages 19 hotels across Michigan and Florida, including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt and IHG properties.
