DETROIT — Health Alliance Plan, a Detroit-based nonprofit health plan, announced today that nationally-recognized industry experts John Gorman and Jeff Chaffkin have been appointed to the HAP Board of Directors.
Gorman is the founder and former executive chairman at Gorman Health Group (GHG) in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a leading professional services and solutions firm for government sponsored health care, where he led the development and launch of several entrepreneurial ventures in both software and business process outsourcing in government health programs. He has more than 25 years of experience in government-sponsored health program strategy, compliance and operations
Prior to founding GHG, Gorman served as assistant to the director of Health Care Financing Administration’s Office of Managed Care, where he provided day-today management and served as the external liaison for the Medicare and Medicaid managed care programs. A native of Detroit, his early career included serving as press secretary and staff director for U.S. Representative John Conyers, Jr. (D-MI), then-Chairman of the Government Operations Committee.
Gorman is a popular speaker, sharing his predictions about the evolving government-sponsored managed care market with senior health care executives across the U.S. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in government and economics from Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio
Chaffkin currently serves as senior healthcare advisor to XMS Capital Partners, a global, independent financial services firm with offices in Chicago, London and Dublin that provides investment banking, asset management and merchant banking services. He also serves on the board of Glenridge Healthcare Solutions, a leading provider of network development, management, compliance and optimization services.
“John Gorman and Jeff Chaffkin are phenomenal additions to the HAP Board of Directors,” said Terri Kline, president and CEO, Health Alliance Plan. “Together, they bring unmatched industry experience that includes notable accomplishments and impressive spheres of influence throughout their remarkable careers. I am confident that HAP members, employees and other stakeholders will benefit greatly from the contributions these two industry icons make to HAP and its board of directors.”
