Hardwick wins GOP race for congressman

GENESEE COUNTY — Allen Hardwick of Davison Township defeated Tom Whitmire of Flushing in the Republican primary face-off for the United States Representative in Congress — Fifth District.

Hardwick polled 13,567 votes to Whitmire’s 12,859, according to unofficial Michigan primary elections results posted on the state elections website.

Hardwick will face Democratic incumbent Dan Kildee in the November election. Kildee, who is in his first term, ran unopposed in Tuesday’s primary.

Voters in Genesee County narrowly favored Whitmire who pulled 6,841 votes (about 51 percent) compared to Hardwick’s 6,257 votes (about 49 percent).

The 5th congressional district represents voters in parts of Arenac, Bay, Genesee, Iosco, Saginaw and Tuscola counties. By Rhonda Sanders
