Holiday crash leads to second degree murder charges

FLINT — A Flint Township man has been charged with two counts of second-degree murder following a fatal Christmas Eve crash on Saginaw and 12th streets.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton charged Lorenzo Jackson, 23, of Flint Township in the deadly crash in the City of Flint that killed two people.

Jackson is also charged with two counts of first-degree fleeing and eluding police related to the incident.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Dec. 24. Police observed a vehicle driving recklessly southbound on Saginaw Street and swerving in traffic.

Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but before they could make the traffic stop, the suspect’s vehicle ran the red light and crashed into a Pontiac Grand Am at the intersection of Saginaw and 12th Streets. The two occupants in the Grand Am were killed on impact.

“At a time when many people are celebrating the joys of the holidays with friends and family, a terrible tragedy has unexpectedly taken two lives,” said Prosecutor David Leyton. “My heart goes out to their families as they deal with their tragic losses,” he said.

Jackson will be arraigned in 67th District Court. — G.G.
