HONORING THEIR MEMORY

The Marine Corps League Flint Detachment 155 will host a Memorial Ceremony, at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 24 at the Flint City Cemetery on Linden Road between Pasadena Avenue and Flushing Road in Flint Township. The public is invited to attend a 15-20 minute ceremony featuring Retired Air Force Col. Ken Kurowski as guest speaker, the Shiawassee County Young Marines to Present the Colors and a 21-gun salute, according to James Porn, League Commandant. An estimated 55 veterans, dating as far back as the Civil War, are buried at the back end of the back end of the cemetery in graves marked by white crosses and flags, he said. In addition to hosting the ceremony for many years, the League has taken responsibility for maintaining the cemetery for 18 years. “We deem it an honor to take care of our vets,’’ Porn said.
