Concerts at Machine Shop
— The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Blackberry Smoke, Dec. 17. Doors at 7 p.m. Cost is $10 in advance. On Dec. 23 Rock Star will hold the Ugly Sweater Bash. This is a low dough concert. The Polar Express is coming
— On Dec. 18 at 12:30 p.m., gather around and listen to Handsome Harry the Conductor as he reads The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg at Sloan Museum. This award-winning children’s book is about a young boy whose faith in the holiday spirit is revived after he makes his way by train to the North Pole on Christmas Eve. Be sure to stick around and enjoy other Holiday activities and crafts. The cost of this event is included with regular admission: Adults $6, seniors $5 and kids 3-11 $4, free for pass holders and Mott Community College Students/Faculty. No need to pre-register, just drop in.

MCC holiday concert
— The Mott Community College Fine Arts Department is presenting its annual holiday concert, featuring a broad range of classical and traditional music selections on Dec. 19
The concert will be at 3 p.m., Dec. 19 at the Woodside Church, 1509 E. Court St., Flint. This event is free and open to the public. Free will donations to support MCC music scholarships are welcome.
The MCC Band, Choir, Chamber Singers, and several instrumental groups, including the Brass, Clarinet, Flute and Guitar ensembles, are scheduled to perform. Special guests on the program include The Flint Male Chorus.
The concert will feature several holiday favorites such as “Sleigh Ride,” “We Three Kings,” selections from “The Nutcracker,” as well as original arrangements, “What Strangers are These?” and “I Saw Three Ships” by Dr. Matthew J. Packer, director of the MCC Choir, MCC Chamber Singers and The Flint Male Chorus. An arrangement of “Silent Night,” by Grace Marra, director of the Midland Men of Music Male Chorus, will also be featured.
