Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Dirty Rotten Imbeciles on Jan. 28. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance. Non Point with Straight Line Stitch will perform Jan. 29. The show is $15 in advance. Country-western fun at Wild Spurs

GRAND BLANC — Wild Spurs, part of The Jewel Entertainment Complex, at 5270 Perry Rd., features live bands Friday and Saturday nights. Friday nights are rock music and Saturday’s are county. New exhibit opens at the Sloan Museum

FLINT — The newest exhibit at Sloan Museum titled “Martin Luther King and Fair Housing in Flint” continues through Feb. 28. In the 1960s, Flint was as involved in the issues and passions of the Civil Rights movement as was the rest of the United States. Intended for all ages, this exhibit showcases the efforts of Martin Luther King and the debate over fair housing in Flint.

Telescope workshop offered at Longway Planetarium

FLINT — If you missed the January telescope workshop at the Longway Planetarium, here’s another chance! The workshop will be held Feb. 19 from 9-11:30 a.m. Find out how to properly use a telescope with this interactive workshop presented by Longway Planetarium Astronomer, Richard Walker.

Explore different types of telescopes, eye pieces, Barlow’s and calculating magnifications. Discover how to line up the finder scope, what to look at and what you actually see. Also discover useful magazines, charts, books and other publications.

Registration required. Reserve your space early as space is limited. The workshop is for ages 8 and up. The fee is $10 individual, $25 per family (up to 4 people). — G.G.

FCP announces auditions for ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’

FLINT TWP. — Flint Community Players (FCP) will hold auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar 2-5 p.m. Feb. 6 with a second round of auditions to be held the following Sunday, Feb. 13 from 2-5 p.m.

Director Steven J. Mokofsky is seeking 25 men and women between the ages of 20-50. This is indeed a rock opera and everyone who auditions will be required to sing. No preparation is needed; all audition materials will be provided.
