Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Asking Alexandria with Chiodos, Lower Than Atlantis and It Lies Within on April 8. Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance. Cold and Egypt Central will headline on April 9 with Kopek and Oceans Divide. Tickets are $18 in advance. Laser Rock Shows at Longway Planetarium in April

FLINT — Laser Rock Shows at Longway Planetarium will amaze your senses on Fridays and Saturdays throughout April. Each show combines hit music with choreographed multicolor laser imagery for a sensory experience unlike any other. These shows have been enjoyed by audiences worldwide. Dance party scheduled

GRAND BLANC — Dance each Tuesday evening at the Jewel of Grand Blanc, 5270 Perry Rd. There is a dance party from 7-10 p.m. They play Swing, Latin and Ballroom. Food and drinks are available before and during the dances. The cover charge is only $3 per person. — G.G.

MCC returns to tradition of community dance

FLINT — The Mott Community College Alumni Association is bringing back a traditional favorite among former students — a community dance alumni have frequently mentioned as one of the most beloved events of MCC’s early years.

“Let’s Dance for Mott” will be held on the eve of MCC’s graduation, Friday, April 29, 2011 from 7:30-11:30 p.m. in the MCC Event Center. This event is open to the public.

Music will be provided by Charles Scales and will feature distinct, diverse styles of ballroom dance – from urban to traditional to Latin. Tickets are $50 per person. All proceeds from the dance will go to support the MCC Achieving the Dream Through Alumni Scholarships program.

Three expert instructors from the Flint area’s ballroom dancing community will join in the Graduation Dance festivities. They include Tony Caldwell, Advisor, MCC Ballroomers; Lucille Brown, Member, The Flint Connection Dance Club; and Missy Scibilia, President of the Flint Dance Club 810-423-6356,
