Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present Polkadot Cadaver with special guests Downtown Brown, Massakren and A Sleepless Malice, Aug. 19. This is a low dough concert.

The Rockstar ’80s Hairband Tribute Concert will take place Aug. 20. This is a low dough concert.

The Art of Dying with special guests Matt Toka, Star City Meltdown and Mindflaw, will be held Aug. 24. This is a low dough concert.

FLINT — Flint Youth Theatre is hosting its third annual Open House on Aug. 22 from 6-8 p.m. Community members of all ages and interests are invited to experience the joy of a drama class, the thrill of an audition and the wonder of a backstage tour. This free event will take place at FYT, located at 1220 E. Kearsley St. in the Flint Cultural Center.

Guests can participate in or observe activities such as auditions, improvisation performances, drama classes and backstage tours highlighting FYT’s broad range of performance and education opportunities. Brochures and fliers about FYT programming will be available for guests to take home. All guests will be eligible for prize drawings and special offers. Refreshments provided. — G.G. Back to the Bricks After-Glo at Bubba O’Malley’s

BURTON— Not ready to go home after being “Back to the Bricks?” Bubba O’Malley’s is hosting an After-Glo Tent Party to benefit the Old Newsboys of Flint on Aug. 19-20. Bubba O’Malley’s is located at 1076 S Belsay Rd. in Burton, just south of I-69. Gates open at 5 p.m., so stop by for drinks, food, entertainment and fun. The $5 gate fee will be donated to the Old Newsboys to support their Holiday Box Program.

The Old Newsboys’ Christmas Box Program provides warm clothing, two pairs of socks and underwear, gloves and a stocking cap, dental hygiene products, and a toy to at-risk children.

The program is funded entirely through the annual paper sale, donations and fundraisers. In its 87 year history the Old Newsboys organization has put presents under the tree for more than 765,000 children across Genesee County.
