Concerts coming up at The Machine Shop

FLINT — The Machine Shop, 3539 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, will present David Allan Coe with special guests Gunnar & The Grizzley Boys and Hellbound Glory on March 30. This performance is sold out.

Banana 101.5 FM presents the Nox Aeris CD release show for Janus, with special guests Ghosts of August, Stealing Betty and No Resolve on March 31. Tickets are $8 in advance.

Bobaflex with special guests Atom Smash and Edisun with perform April 6. Tickets are $8 in advance.

Benefit concert for Ruby Selesky

RICHFIELD TWP. — A benefit will be held April 15 at the Davison Eagles Club, 3270 N. State Rd., beginning at 1 p.m., for Ruby Selesky, who is battling breast cancer. Music, food and cash bar will be available.

The bands performing will include The Groove Council, The Knuckleheads, The Shovelbyrds and the Broken Arrow Blues Band.

Shakespeare in the Park is back

FLINT — Open auditions are being held for the Kearsley Park Players 2012 “Theatre in our Parks” season. Productions this season will include Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”, the children’s theatre fairy tale “Cinderella” and the Broadway musical “Bye Bye Birdie.”

All productions will be directed by Kay Kelly.

Auditions will be held April 2-3 from 5-7 p.m. at the Flint Institute of Music, 1025 E. Kearsley St. in Flint.

Actors, singers, musicians and tech crew are all needed. Performers should prepare a scene from the play or a monologue of their choice. Singers and musicians should prepare a musical piece. Parts in each show are available for performers of all ages. Technical crew needed as well. All members of the company will be paid $50 per production thanks to a generous grant from the Ruth Mott Foundation.

“Theatre in our Parks” is presented by the Genesee County Parks Commission and the City of Flint Parks Department. Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” will be presented June 8-16; Children’s Theatre “Cinderella” will be presented July 12-14 and the musical “Bye Bye Birdie” will be presented August 9-12. The productions will be staged at Kearsley Park, Linden County Park, ForMar Nature Preserve, Flushing County Parks with “Bye, Bye Birdie” being performed at the Colwell Opera House at Crossroads Village.
